TA PROHM

Ta Prohm

It was very surreal walking through this temple. You really begin to appreciate nature's beauty and nature's destructive power all at once. These towering trees' roots have overrun this temple that was built centuries ago. Its root system elegantly tangles itself throughout the temple to complete the majestic picture. But, at the same time, you know that those are the same trees that's destroying the temple.

Not including Angkor Wat or Angkor Thom which in itself takes a day, we saw 13 other wats all historically and architecturally significant. The only temple that I wished I had time to see was Western Baray. This temple lies on an island in the middle of a man-made rectangular pool that's 8km x 2.3km! I admit the lake didn't look very impressive while we were driving around it, but I developed a new appreciation of the enormous size of the lake on the airplane at 35,000 ft.
